As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will...
- Work with a team of APL Engineers, employ CAD/CAE tools to conceptualize, design, develop, and analyze mechanical/electromechanical components for missile systems.
- Actively participate in industry/government working teams by interacting with sponsors, contractors, and APL staff.
- Create or oversee the creation of part and assembly drawings that incorporate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and interface with fabrication personnel.
- Arrange for fabrication of flight hardware or ground support equipment. Supervise the assembly and environmental test of the applicable hardware.
- Travel to meet with sponsors and contractors, and supervise the integration and test of flight hardware.
- Document results in technical memoranda and present findings to government agencies and flight test mission planners.

Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 3 or more years of hardware development experience.
- Have experience using CAD (CREO or SolidWorks) and with the full cycle of hardware development - preliminary design, detailed design, and fabrication.
- Display creativity in designing hardware for fabrication, assembly, and test.
- Have familiarity with the use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing techniques.
- Are proficient in technical writing and making presentations.
- Have the willingness to travel occasionally (up to 10%) to sponsor, contractor, and peer organization facilities for meetings.
reviews. - Have the ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a full Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Have an MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5 or more years of hardware development experience.
- Have experience leading technical teams.
- Have formal training in Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) to optimize designs to meet functional, structural, dynamic, thermal, and manufacturability requirements.
- Have experience with tactical missile and launcher design/development and working with DOD personnel and missile contractors.
- Have expertise in the use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing techniques.
- Currently hold a Secret, Top Secret or TS/SCI security clearance.
